Sensibility
Sensibility
Hannah More
Sweet Sensibility! thou soothing power,
Who shed'st thy blessings like a genial shower!
To thee we owe the pleasure and the pain
Of life! the mingled joy and grief we gain.
The tear of pity, when another bleeds;
The generous impulse which from mercy feeds;
The soft responsive throb, the warm delight
Which beauty kindles, and which truth excites;
The tender glowing, when a tale of woe
Makes the full heart with sympathetic flow;
The conscious flush, th'involuntary sigh,
The silent eloquence of feeling's eye:
All, all are thine, sweet Sensibility!
