Love's Last Lesson
Love's Last Lesson
Letitia Elizabeth Landon
I cannot think — I cannot weep,
The eyes are seal'd in sleep;
Wake me not — let me forget
The past I would not yet
Remember. — Is this death?
I cannot feel the breath;
The heart whose beating ceased to be
Hath taken life from me.
Yet even the dull grave
Hath this — it cannot have
Remorse or memory;
And both of these are free
In me. — Why should I live?
What has the world to give
When hope and love are fled,
And all the heart is dead?
