Goodbye

Goodbye

Wang Wei

We parted at the gorge and cried "Good cheer!"
The sun was setting as I closed my door;
Methought, the spring will come again next year,
But he may come no more.

Poem text transcribed from Giles, Chinese Poetry in English Verse (1898), pp. 54–56. Typographic punctuation normalized; verse lines preserved. · Translated by Herbert A. Giles
